A DAWLISH-based folk band has made a video to drum up volunteers for a community project.

Maddy and the Chaps are a country, folk and Celtic band with an enormous following – their Christmas video, A Fairy Tale of New York, had more than 30k viewings on social media.

For their next video, they have teamed up with Dawlish Community Transport (DCT) to make a video to encourage more volunteering. DCT offers accessible and affordable transport services for people who may be unable to use public transport, or need support in accessing shops, health appointments, services and leisure activities.

East Teignbridge Community Transport Association Sally Preston said: ‘They’re a lovely team of mostly volunteers and a small team of staff.

‘During the last year a number ofvolunteers have had to withdraw from helping because of shielding, and the organisation is desperate for more volunteers to ensure DCT can continue to help so many people, from children as young as five to the not so young. Their most mature passenger at present is 106!’

Neil Salter, of Dawlish Beach Cams who run five cameras around Dawlish and Dawlish Warren agreed to support the project, and has done all the filming and editing to get it ready for launch.

After much consideration the band decided Country Roads by John Denver would be the perfect song, as the charity takes people on trips up and down the county roads of Devon in their range of minibuses.

The video is out now and can be found on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and the band have also put clips on TiKTok.
