A TEACHER at a top Teignbridge school has been suspended over alleged ‘inappropriate’ contact with a student.

The teacher has been banished from Coombeshead Academy, Newton Abbot, while the ‘serious matter’ is investigated.

It is understood the teacher, who is not being named but whose identity is generally known, allegedly established ‘inappropriate’ social media contact with the student in the summer holidays – a link strictly forbidden by the academy.

The girl in question, whose identity is not being released, is no longer at the establishment.

Executive headteacher Matthew Shanks confirmed that a member of staff had been suspended over a matter involving social media friendship.

The purpose of the inquiry is believed to be to establish exactly the nature of the contact.
