TEIGN School students have raised more than £1,000 for Cancer Research UK through selling and reading.
Lyra House pupils ran a ‘bring and buy’ sale in the school’s library, including books, toys, games, smellies, bric-a-brac, greetings cards, soft toys, cakes and even a coffee machine.
Generous donations and purchasing from staff, students and parents raised more than £370 on the day.
The Lyra students gave up their time at lunch and after school to run the sale.
Jo Slade, success leader of Lyra House, said: ‘I’m really proud of what Lyra students have managed to raise for their chosen charity in just one day.
‘They were real retailers at heart and took pride in arranging the stall to maximise the sales to the Teign staff, students and their families. Well done Lyra – keep it going!’
Isabel O’Neill, Year Seven Lyra House student, added: ‘It was important for our house to come together to bring things in and it was a good, fun way of making money for Cancer Research UK.’
The sale money was added to the Lyra House Year Seven ‘growing £4’ proceeds, and a school sponsored read which raised £700, bringing the total to more than £1,000 for Cancer Research UK.
