TEIGNBRIDGE has been named one of the South West’s most relaxing places to live, according to a new report – although neighbouring Torbay took the top spot.
The 2026 study, carried out by shower and bathroom retailer Showers to You, ranked local authorities across the South West based on factors considered important for relaxation.
Showers to You created a points-based index assessing factors including the median distance to the nearest park, the number of cafés, fitness and yoga facilities, rivers, and average air pollution levels, to award each area a relaxation score out of ten.
And Teignbridge came ninth, recording a relaxation score of 6.57 out of 10.
Teignbridge scored particularly highly for its access to natural surroundings.
However, it was Torbay that claimed the title of the South West’s most relaxing place, achieving a score of 8.8.
Bristol and Exeter came second and third respectively, both scoring 8.74, followed by Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole on 8.55.
Gloucester, Cheltenham, Swindon and Plymouth completed the eight authorities ranked above Teignbridge, while North Somerset came 10th with a score of 6.38.
For Teignbridge, the ninth-place ranking puts the district firmly among the top ten most relaxing places in the South West – and just one place behind Plymouth.
The South West ranked seventh out of the 11 regions across the UK in Showers to You’s study.
The study comes as research suggests that relaxing spaces are becoming increasingly important, with as many as 91 per cent of UK adults reporting high or extreme levels of stress over the past year.
