TEIGNMOUTH port manager Colin Greenwell has retired. Mr Greenwell, 54, took early retirement after 26 years with company Associated British Ports. He has been manager of Teignmouth and Plymouth ports for the past eight years. His' personal decision' to retire comes after Associated British Ports recent £2.8 billion takeover by the Admiral Acquisition consortium. Before coming to Devon, Mr Greenwell had various posts with the firm including port engineer for ABP Southampton. Mr Greenwell has been instrumental to the development of Teignmouth Port, steering it through the recently completed Western Quays development. Matt Jukes, port director of ABP's Short-Sea Ports, said: 'Colin has worked hard in recent years developing Plymouth and Teignmouth and has been instrumental in the recent major development of Western Quays at Teignmouth, thereby securing the future of that port for many years to come. We wish him and his family well in his retirement.' Mr Greenwell was instrumental in the success of Teignmouth and Plymouth ports. Both ports have seen an increase in sea freight tonnages in South Devon. Major users of the port include WBB Minerals, Mole Valley Farmers and Civil and Marine Slag. Mr Greenwell will continue as a Harbour Commissioner with Teignmouth Harbour Commission. ABP will be announcing the appointment of a new port manager for these two ports in due course.
