Sunshine bathed Coombe Valley for this opening league fixture and Teignmouth gave a sparkling performance to take all three points against their north Devon visitors Appledore.

The game began at a high tempo and Appledore showed their intent slicing Teigns apart and only a good stop from home keeper Liam Jones prevented his side from falling behind after the visitors' centre forward ran unchecked to shoot for goal.

Teignmouth didn't heed the warning and in the fifth minute their opponents broke down the right, their winger supplying the perfect cross and Jones could do nothing as Appledore's centre forward crashed the ball home.

The goal sparked Teigns into life and after persistent pressure Adam Hill forced home Terry Breslan's cross in the 13th minute to equalise. The two sides were evenly matched and were locked at 1-1 at half-time.

Two minutes into the second half a deft flick-on from Adam Fay put Craig Stonelake through on goal and the midfielder calmly lifted the ball over visiting keeper Spry to put the home side ahead.

Appledore came back and Teigns' central defensive trio of Jaime Dodge, Jamie Surman and captain Alex Blackburn had to work hard to contain the visitors' attacking threat.

Two fine stops from Jones and an Appledore 'goal' disallowed for offside just kept Teigns' noses in front. The relentless pressure took its toll on Appledore as they could not break Teigns' resolute defence and began to lose their shape. Capitalising on this the home side found another gear and upped their work-rate.

Andy Breslan had a superb game in midfield picking up the loose balls and creating from his deep position and player manager Geoff Breslan led by example as Teigns sensed there were more goals to come.

Only a smart reaction save from Spry denied Mark Dyson from opening his account. Ashley Webber came off the bench to replace T Breslan as Teigns switched to a flat back four.

Great pace and skill took Hill clear on the right in the 80th minute and Fay was on hand to finish Hill's cross for Teigns' third to put the game out of the visitors' reach. Dean Liddle replaced Dodge as Teigns looked to close the game down and protect their two-goal lead but with two minutes left they put the icing on the cake. Blackburn's pin-point pass sent Stonelake clear with his pass finding Fay. Spry saved Fay's effort but G Breslan emphatically volleyed home for the fourth.

Teigns will be hoping to maintain the form and work-rate going for their next game when Okehampton visit Coombe Valley on Saturday. Kick off 3pm.
