Teignmouth's long journey to north Devon proved fruitless as Appledore hit them with a second half goal blitz to run out comfortable winners.
The result could have been so different had Adam Hill not received his marching orders in first half stoppage time, for alleged violent conduct – at the time Teigns were leading 2-1.
Teigns started the better of the two sides and, in the third minute, Hill's accurate chip was clinically finished by Fay, who drove the ball into the bottom right corner of the net.
Appledore had Teigns under pressure and Liam Jones was the busier off the two keepers.
A great move between Ian Wilkinson, Fay and Mark Dyson split the home defence but Dyson's effort on goal was blocked.
Appledore were then awarded a penalty. Leyland's spot kick was saved by Jones, but Leyland reacted quickest to fire home the loose ball.
Fay nearly restored his side's lead, but his overhead kick was well saved by home keeper Spry. Moments later Spry had to be at his best to turn Wilkinson's testing drive around the post.
Lee Haywood brought the ball out of defence and played a ball wide to Hill, who turned his marker inside out before delivering a searching ball into the box that the home side scrambled clear just as Fay was about to pounce.
Appledore were quick to counter attack and used the long ball to great effect.
To add a bit of humour to the proceeding, Terry Breslan slipped while taking a throw, causing great amusement to players and the spectators.
Five minutes before the interval Teigns took the lead.
Great play between Lloyd Gardner and Wilkinson opened up the home defence and Gardner passed wide to overlapping full-back A Breslan. He slipped the ball to Dyson and his cross was emphatically headed home by Fay.
From the restart the home side put Teigns under pressure – Jones collected a dangerous cross into his penalty area and captain Alex Blackburn twice snuffed out any attacking threat with well timed challenges.
Despite the end-to-end nature of the game, Teigns deserved to be ahead at the break as they had played the better football.
The dismissal of Hill meant Appledore had the extra man, and playing down the slope for the second half defiantly gave them the upper hand.
They showed their intent in the opening minutes of the second period. Teigns were unable to get the ball clear, and Jones saved well as Bettis had a free header from a corner before Haywood cleared a goal-bound effort.
The mounting pressure told and the home side equalised in the 62nd minute through Bettis. Five minutes later they had the lead, Rees the scorer this time, and Bettis netted again in the 69th minute.
Gardner was replaced by Jamie Surman as Teigns tried to get back into the game, but Appledore increased their lead, Bettis claiming his hat-trick.
Ashley Webber and Leon Saint came on for Haywood and A Breslan, but the changes couldn't halt the home side, who got their sixth goal with a drive from Butler and, in the closing stages, Bettis headed home his fourth and Appledore's seventh to complete a miserable afternoon for Teigns.
Tomorrow, Teignmouth play host to Bovey Tracey in the first round of the Throgmorton Cup, kick-off 2.30pm.
