TEN fire engines are dealing with a serious fire that has closed the A38 in both directions near Exeter.
The A38 is closed between Junction 31 on the M5 and the A379 at Kennford, with queueing traffic reported in both directions and significant disruption for motorists.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service told the Mid-Devon Advertiser that ten pumps are currently at the scene, with the fire having spread to an adjacent field.
There is congestion southbound on the M5 and at Splatford Split for northbound traffic.
The A379 is also heavily congested.
Drivers are being urged to avoid the area where possible and allow extra time for journeys while the closure remains in place.
The Mid-Devon Advertiser have contacted Devon & Cornwall Police for more details.
