DARTMOOR’S annual Ten Tors Challenge for this year has been cancelled.
The event fell foul of the pandemic last year and sadly the lockdown conditions currently in place sadly make it impossible to run.
‘It is with regret that I have to announce it is no longer possible to hold a physical Ten Tors event on Dartmoor this May,’ said the event director Colonel Neville Holmes MBE.
‘We have been working closely with the local authorities and Ten Tors Policy Committee to plan a safe and enjoyable event but the restrictions that will still be in place over that period mean this is no longer possible.
'I know this will be a huge disappointment to many however, given that safety is always our number one priority, I hope everyone understands why the decision was made.
However, it’s not all bad news as plans are now underway to run a full Ten Tors event in 2022 and organisers are planning to enable a virtual event for later this year.
‘The virtual event is still in the planning stages and we will reveal more details later,’ continued Colonel Holmes.
‘We hope teams may wish to conduct it closer to home during 2021 and help keep the Ten Tors flame alive.
‘In the meantime, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved for their forbearance and to hope you and your families stay safe and well.’
