A THIEF, believed to be aged 17-18, who broke into a car and stole £205 worth of property in Ashburton Close, Bovey Tracey, has stirred the owner into action.

Bridget Arnold believes youngsters in the town are bored and on Monday told the town council she was trying to organise an indoor skate park which could be used all the year.

'We have started looking into a bit of funding and are hoping to have a meeting with the community youth worker.

'We are thinking of an industrial unit in Heathfield as a possible venue. That is on a bus route and youngsters from outside the area could also use it,' said Mrs Arnold.

The mayor, Cllr Avril Kerswell, said the council supported the idea of a skate park.

'When we had an open meeting the youngsters said they would like a skate park. We asked them to get together and come forward to us with their ideas. We are still waiting.

'I think it is a wonderful idea if you can get it off the ground. We are not opposed to the idea and if there is any way we can help you, we will. The matter will go to the relevant committee,' said Cllr Kerswell.

The deputy mayor, Cllr David Risdon told Mrs Arnold that it was important to integrate with other organisations and people in the town so that everything was done in cohesion.

Cllr Fernley Holmes suggested Millmarsh Park was ideally placed for a skate park.

'It needs to be a planned situation, though it would be outside,' he said.
