CLASSIC warbirds, aerobatic aircraft and even a pterodactyl  were on display in the centre of Newton Abbot last weekend.

The static air display on Saturday  was courtesy of the  Exeter and District Radio Control Club, and allowed the public, and prospective new flyers, to see their magnificent machines up close and learn about radio controlled flying.

The club, based at  Wrayford Field  in Kingsteignton, has been in existence for over 65 years and is always keen for new members who fancy heading up into the wild blue yonder to join them.

‘We’re an all-inclusive club open to anyone with the interest in the hobby,’ said club chairman Roger Perryman.

‘We have members of all flying  abilities  ages ranging  from eight to over eighty and we provide flying and technical instruction to the standards of the British Model Flying Association (BMFA).’

Many of the club’s members first flew under the watchful eyes  of experienced model flyers, but nowadays club instructors use the latest  digital computer-controlled equipment as well as computerised model flying simulators.

‘We’re always happy to welcome new members,’ continued Roger.

‘Under the BMFA’s ‘First time Inexperienced Flyer scheme you can, by prior arrangement, experience the thrill of   flying a model aircraft using a dual-control training system at no cost to themselves.’

Future  aviators  who fancy taking to the air can contact the club via their website at  https://edrcc.bmfa.club.
