THOUSANDS of Facebook users, all hoping to attend this year’s BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend, have been tricked by a fake page that was set up to give people the chance to win tickets to the event.

On Thursday (March 10) the page was created and the post offering the chance of tickets has been shared more than 13,000 times and received more than 10,000 likes.

The page, called BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend 2016 Exeter Tickets, has been asking users to like, share and comment on the post to get tickets to see the likes of Coldplay and Ellie Goulding at Powderham Castle on May 28 and 29.

A BBC spokesman has confirmed that the page is not real and has nothing to do with Radio 1.

Ticketing details for the music spectacle will be announced on March 21.

As well as Coldplay and Ellie Goulding, Chase and Status, Bring me the Horizon, Craig David, Jake Bugg and the 1975 will be gracing the stage.
