RUSH-HOUR traffic heading for Newton Abbot and Exeter from Torquay was gridlocked on the South Devon Highway after a three-vehicle shunt just after 8am today.

No one was hurt in the accident which involved a Nissan Micra, Transit van and Ford Fiesta.

The collision left traffic jammed solid from the flyover right back to the Kerswell Gardens junction on the edge of Torquay.

Police said the accident was reported at 8.15am.

The Nissan Micra had to be recovered from the carriageway while the other vehicles could be driven away.

A police spokesman confirmed that no one was injured.

The congestion eased after 9am.
