‘WE ask for businesses to be vigilant, remove cash daily and review security’, Devon and Cornwall Police have said after reports of burglaries to retail businesses in South Devon.

‘We have received reports of burglaries and attempted burglaries to retail businesses in the South Devon area recently, the burglaries have taken place sometime in the late evening and early morning’ a spokesperson for the force said.

The suspects are targeting tills and security boxes, police say.

The spokesperson went on to say: ‘Please report suspicious activity on 101, no matter how minor, suspicious circumstances might for instance involve someone scoping out the premises or visiting during opening hours and paying attention to any CCTV or alarm systems, please make a note of descriptions and any vehicle registrations seen.

‘Alarm systems unexpectedly malfunctioning may indicate preparatory work by the suspects and should be investigated promptly.

‘Please phone 999 if you believe a crime is taking place.
