A NINETY-six-year-old GWR guard's van (Toad) was opened at the Bovey Tracey Heritage Trust on Saturday.

Bovey Tracey mayor Cllr Rob Bray did the honours.

'Since the Heritage Centre relocated to the old station it was always a vision of the trust to have some kind of rolling stock next to the station,' said Katherine Jarvis, of Bovey Tracey Heritage Trust.

With help from Bovey Tracey Town Council funding was secured for £8,500.

More than 70 people attended the ceremony including members of the town council, the heritage trust and other invited guests who had helped to make the acquisition of this latest exhibit possible.

'It is anticipated that this new addition, to the many interesting exhibits already at the station, will not only attract more people to the centre but will also give much needed additional exhibition space,' Katherine added.
