CAMPAIGNERS against the proposed Alternative Vote system were out in force in Teignmouth on Saturday.
A national referendum is being held on May 5 to decide whether to adopt the AV scheme or stick with first past the post.
Local Conservatives and others opposed to AV set up a stall in the Triangle, and also walked around the town centre speaking to shoppers.
They were joined by Newton Abbot MP Anne Marie Morris, and handed out literature explaining their point of view.
Teignmouth councillor Sylvia Russell said they found a lot of support for retaining the existing voting system.
'Many people believed that there were more important things to concentrate on than changing the way we vote.
'It was all very worthwhile.'
