A Bovey Tracey lunch club is tossing pancakes tomorrow, February 28, to raise funds for a debt counseling charity.
Lunch Bunch Xtra is fundraising for CAP, a national money management and debt counselling charity, at its monthly get together at Bovey Tracey Baptist Church.
Lunch and pancakes will be followed by a short explanation of what CAP is all about and to see if there’s a need for a money management course to help local folk make ends meet.
Lunch Bunch Xtra is run by 24 volunteers. It meets every last Thursday of the month.
Administrator Jan Brown said: ‘It caters for those living on their own and those new to the area or in need of meeting up with others.
‘The club has nearly 60 people on its books, the majority being elderly, and there is always a quiz and a five minute “thought for the month”.
‘To cover the cost of the lunch, a donation pot is available for folk to put in what they feel they can afford.
‘A highlight of the lunch is when up to 12 children come in from the primary school next door to serve, clear away and sing a song as part of their community work before they go back to lessons.
‘We’re hoping tomorrow that we can get some of the children to try to toss pancakes - cold ones, of course.’
