AT a recent meeting of the council, Buckfastleigh town councillors welcomed a new mayor.

Outgoing mayor, Councillor Sue Clarke, who held the postion of mayor, as well as Chairman of the council, since October 2020 and was thanked for her service, gave way for Councillor Huw Cox to take the helm.

Councillor Clarke is to continue serving the town of Buckfastleigh as a town councillor.

Elsewhere in the meeting, the council was pleased to confirm to confirm that Teignbridge District Council will be refurbishing the Buckfast Play Park at some stage in the year.

It should also be mentioned that ,during the meeting, which took place on January 18, councillors were glad to report that the Buckfastleigh Community Development Trust has been awarded a lottery grant of £270,000 to support the development of its youth work at the Bungalow.

Buckfastleigh Town Council dished out some money of its own too.

Two grant allocations of £500 were made to the town’s Pokemon Club and Woolly Nanas respectively.

The Town Council is currently working with the Environment Agency to update their Emergency Plan to reflect the new Flood Warning service, which residents can sign up to at https://www.gov.uk/sign-up-for-flood-warnings.
