TOWN councillors in Dawlish are worried about a lack of police in the town, and are calling for a return to ‘acceptable’ levels of policing.

At a meeting of the full council, members agreed to raise their concerns with both the Chief Constable of Devon and Cornwall Police Will Kerr and Police and Crime Commissioner Alison Hernandez.

The full council agreed to write to both of them to express concerns at the lack of a police presence in the town, particularly during the summer months.

They are particularly concerned about policing levels during the summer at the height of the tourist season ‘given officers had been redeployed to other locations’.

The council says it wants to understand the reasons for the lack of provision and to be informed as to what additional resources will be provided.

They argue that additional resources will enable the level of policing in the town to return to an acceptable level.
