THE background to this fixture made this one of Town's more memorable performances.

Although Dawlish have started the season well in terms of results, the side has not looked as balanced as last season and so chairman Dave Fenner took the brave decision to release recent signing Kevin Wills.

Two senior players, Danny Harris and Liam Moseley, stated that they do not wish to play for the club again. Then in Tuesday's game at Barnstaple, Dawlish lost key defender Dean Coppard to a horrendous injury which required emergency surgery at a north Devon hospital.

With influential midfielder Adam Shearer having to miss this game to attend a family wedding, Dawlish made the trip to Frome missing half their regular side.

Young reserve players Lee Fenner and Jamie Spence were drafted in as full backs and never looked out of place. Mark Forrester made his first appearance for almost 12 months after undergoing surgery on a knee injury and typified the spirit in the camp.

Dawlish took control of the game from the start and the much vaunted Frome attack rarely threatened. On the one occasion they did break through, ex-Torquay United keeper Martin Horsell made a fine save.

Nineteen-year-old striker Joe Bushin has taken the Western League by storm since his move up from local football and his clinical finishing gave Dawlish a 2-0 half time lead. On 40 minutes he turned his defender and fired a low right foot shot just inside the post and two minutes later he met an Antony Lynch cross with a crisp half volley.

Lynch turned from provider to scorer on 55 minutes when he found the back of the net with a shot from a narrow angle. Despite tired legs, Dawlish saw out a comfortable victory.
