NEW clothing ‘swap’ initiative is to be repeated in Dawlish.
Organised by Sustainable Dawlish, the Clothes Swap was a chance for donate quality clothing, no longer needed, in exchange for other items.
Held at the Manor House, the event was the first of its kind in the town, aided by a grant from Reuse Devon.
Organiser Carolyn Ballard said while it was not as well attended as they had hoped, everyone who came said how good the event was.
She said: If you can get one good item of clothing out of this kind of event, it is worth it.
‘Quite a lot of people came and we are planning to hold another event in September.’
A wide variety of items were donated including evening dresses, suits, tops and trousers along with accessories.
Any items remaining after the end of the event were donated to the Strand Centre.
Refreshments were provided by Dawlish Fairtrade Friends. It is estimated the average UK household owns more than £4,000 worth of clothes, almost half of which have not been for more than a year.
The aim of the initiative is to give people a chance to revitalise their wardrobe without buying anything new, reducing carbon footprints and the impact on the environment.
