A Civic Pride Day was organised in Ashburton on Saturday to celebrate the diversity and skills within the town.

Tradespeople, community organisations, artists, performers and craftsmen and women took part at Ashburton Town Hall.

Each mayor is invited to host a civic event and this year's, Cllr Peter Brewer, chose this event.

'It was a great success and exceeded expectation,' said Cllr Brewer.

'We had more than 50 different stalls and contributions.

'There were performances from The In-Con Singers and young musicians from South Dartmoor Community College.

'Cookery demonstrations from Argaric restaurant also went down well.

'There was a great atmosphere and we achieved what we had hoped to.'

There was also a reception and many dignitaries attended.
