A Bovey Tracey family was this week mourning the loss of Cpl Stephen Thompson, killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan.The 31-year-old soldier with the 1st Battalion The Rifles (1 Rifles) – fomerly the Devon and Dorset Regiment – was killed on Sunday.Serving as part of the 3 Rifles Battle Group, Cpl Thompson was on foot patrol in Helmand province, with 2 Platoon out of Patrol Base Almas in an area three kilometres south of Sangin district centre, when the improvised device exploded.
