FIVE cars have been attacked by vandals in Eastern Road, Ashburton, in a night time trail of destruction.

The wreckers caused hundreds of pounds of damage.

Police are anxious to hear from anyone who may be able to help them track down the offenders who struck on New Year’s Eve about 3.20am.

Among the victims was Rosalind Campbell, who complained: ‘It was a group of drunks walking up the road, smashing wing mirrors as they went.’

She estimated the damage to her VW Scirocco at £300.

‘The wing mirror was just left hanging by its electrical cable. If I claim I will lose my no claims bonus and have higher insurance next year,’ she said.

Police said it was ‘a senseless criminal act.’

Altogether five wing mirrors were targeted by the culprits with four of them beyond repair.

A police spokesman said: ‘We believe the offenders walked through the private car park opposite the doctors’ surgery and entered Home Park.’

He added: ‘A group of people were seen to walk past the scene at the time and we are asking any of that group, or anyone else, to please contact us on 101 quoting crime reference CR/000090/15 if they have any information.’
