In an update on this morning’s transport chaos, Devon highways chiefs revealed that most roads across Devon were still impassable.

But the Exeter-bound A380 from Eagle Farm at Kingsteignton to Telegraph Hill was now open with the Newton Abbot route expected to follow suit imminently.

Chris Cranston, County Hall’s highways operations manager, confirmed that the major road network was ’passable with care.’

All roads across Dartmoor remain closed, as does the A382 through Moretonhampstead. The A379 between Shaldon and Torquay is blocked, although the road from Kingsteignton to Teignmouth and Dawlish is passable with caution.

More than 100 highways workers were involved in overnight efforts to keep main roads open in atrocious conditions.
