A GROUP of travellers have moved onto playing fields in Dawlish.

About 15 caravans and vehicles arrived on the land at Sandy Lane yesterday, Saturday.

Police say they area aware of the ‘unauthorised encampment’ on Sandy Lane.

A spokesman said: ‘Police are aware and have begun engagement with the travellers, residents and started enforcement action in conjunction with Teignbridge Council.

'Please remain aware of any suspicious activity including persons trading fraudulently such as targeting elderly people for building or gardening work, and fly tipping and report concerns to the police through 999 if ongoing or 101.’

The playing fields belong to Teignbridge Council.

The arrival in Dawlish follows several other encampments across Teignbridge including Baker’s Park in Newton Abbot.

A group spent several days at Mill Marsh Park in Bovey Tracey last week.
