POETRY, a tape recording and harsh words were used by Buckfastleigh residents to make clear their opposition to the proposed Whitecleave Quarry waste recycling and processing development, writes Paul James.

The triple attack on MVV/Gilpin's controversial proposals was made at a special evening meeting on Wednesday to allow the public to air their concerns as part of the planning inquiry in the town hall.

The verse was supplied by schoolgirl Jessica Stacey, who made her poetic point on behalf of Buckfastleigh's under-18s.

Planning inspector John Woolcock thanked her for her contribution – and said her document would be added to the bundle of evidence.
