AN ASHBURTON woman is planing a road trip with a difference this summer.

Molly Fisher, along with best friend Tarran Sanders from Brighton, will travel from John O’Groats to Land’s End in a tuk tuk to raise £6,000 for mental health charity Mind UK.

For those unversed in the world of tuk tuks they are auto rickshaws, a three-wheeled motorised rickshaw with a top speed of 40mph, which means the trip from John O’Groats to Land’s End won’t be breaking any speed and time records.

‘It will certainly be a gentle cruise down at that speed,’ said Molly who along with Tarran is finalising the route they are going to take.

‘We’re hoping it’ll take 10 or 11 days in total, and obviously its top speed of 42mph means motorways are out of the question so it’s going to be close on 1,000 miles via A-roads and B roads.’

The pair have been preparing the trip for the past 12 months as they wanted to do something exciting while also doing something good for all those suffering the worst since the pandemic hit.

India was going to be the original choice for their rickshaw run but with foreign travel currently out of the question they came up with the idea of a tuk tuk rally round the British Isles instead.

‘It’s been a tough year for everyone, but some have lost everything,’ continued Molly.

‘We can think of lots of reasons why we choose to support Mind UK, it is a charity close to our hearts, but we’re sure you’ll agree the most important is because nobody should face a mental health problem alone.’

The dynamic duo have already already sourced their three-wheeler from Manchester-based Tuk Tuk UK who stepped in with the offer of a vehicle for the trip and the start date for the epic journey will be June 1 with a set time period of two weeks to complete the rally.

Anyone who donates will also have the opportunity issue a challenge for the pair which will be completed during the trip and Molly and Tarran will pick one challenge to complete each day of their two week-long. adventure.

Said Molly: ‘With people’s support we can give those suffering a way forward, help them to understand their options and get support and know that they’re not alone.

‘All donations will be helping Mind UK to fund better services and support so people experiencing a mental health problem get the help they need, when they need it.’
