TWO men from Newton Abbot have been questioned on suspicion of attempted murder after an alleged hit and run attack in the town.

Police have confirmed that the suspects, aged 18 and 21, were detained after a blue Peugeot 106 with a damaged windscreen was found abandoned in a town car park.

Part of the Marsh Road end of The Avenue was sealed off after a 22-year-old man from Newton Abbot was struck by a car just before 4am on Sunday. He is now fighting for his life in Plymouth's Derriford Hospital after suffering critical head injuries.

The men arrested have been questioned and released on police bail pending further inquiries.

They will again be spoken to by investigating officers on October 20.
