Teignmouth & District u3a members are busy making plans to celebrate National u3a Day on June 2.
We are hoping for fine weather, to encourage more than 200 members to be ‘out and about’ in Teignmouth that day, raising the profile of our u3a, helping to challenge negative perceptions of older adults, and inviting other Third Agers to learn how u3a supports the lives of those not in full time employment.
Many of our 38 Interest Groups have remained active during the pandemic, using video conferencing for their regular meetings, and keeping in touch by phone and email.
With the easing of lockdown restrictions after March 29, our outdoor activity groups – bird-watching, cycling, kayaking, outdoor pilates, sea swimming, tennis and our fourwalking groups – are looking forward to being able to meet up again.
We have successfully used Zoom for our monthly guest-speaker meetings on the first Tuesday of every month, while we wait permission to meet up again in the United Reformed Church Hall.
We also run quizzes and other social events on Zoom, enabling members to keep in touch with each other, and these have proved very popular.
We are all looking forward to the time when we can learn and laugh together and live life to the full once more – and are ready to welcome new members who have reached the stage of life where they are no longer in full time employment.
