A WOMAN has sustained life-changing injuries after two people were trapped in the serious accident on the A38 this morning, Tuesday.

The A38 Exeter bound was closed until 1.40pm near Chudleigh following the accident. Traffic queued for miles following the crash.

On Tuesday evening a police spokesperson said: ‘One woman sustained life-changing injuries and was taken to Derriford Hospital.

‘A second woman also suffered minor injuries.’

A Fire and Rescue service spokesperson said: ‘We were called at 8.54am to a road traffic collision involving two vehicles on the A38 between East Chudleigh and Harcombe Cross. Four fire appliances attended, two from Middlemoor, and one each from Ashburton and Bovey Tracey.

‘Two vehicles had left the carriageway, one person was medically trapped and released by fire and ambulance crews, a second person was physically trapped and released by fire crews using hydraulic cutting equipment. Both casualties were treated by the ambulance crew.’

A South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) spokesperson said: ‘We were called at 08.59hrs to a two-vehicle road traffic collision in the general area of Chudleigh.

‘We sent two double-crewed land ambulances, a doctor, a critical care car, an operations officer and hazardous area response team resources. We conveyed one patient to Derriford Hospital by land ambulance.’
