MAJOR disruption to rail services between Newton
Newton Abbot and Exeter is expected two continue until 7pm, National Rail has said.
The incident happened at Starcross station and road traffic in the area is now also said to be ‘backed up’.
Trains between Exeter St Davids and Newton Abbot were currently suspended following the emergency.
British Transport Police are on the scene.
National Rail said: ‘The emergency services are dealing with an incident between Exeter St Davids and Newton Abbot.
‘Whilst they carry out their work, all lines between these stations are closed.
‘Trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.
‘Major disruption is expected until 19:00.’
A GWR spokesman said: ‘Train services running through these stations are likely to be cancelled or delayed by up to 90 minutes.
