Vanland, the mobile filmmaking venture, came to a close with a prizegiving at the Shaftesbury Theatre, Dawlish, on Sunday. During its three years the project involved nearly 100 youngsters making films throughout rural Teignbridge. These were viewed by hundreds more as the specially adapted two-berth caravan which screened them made its way around the district to carnivals, fairs and festivals. The legacy it leaves behind, in addition to the nurturing of creative and technical talent, is a slew of creative, imaginative and often very funny films by youngsters exploring what it means to live in a rural area. The film which won the audience vote on the night was a silent movie from Exminster called The Bridesmaid. Blind Ditch, the artistic co-operative behind Vanland, has also developed filmmaking in the community to include specialist women and over 55 groups. These films, which were made at the Centre of Creative Arts in the Natural World at Haldon, were screened on Tuesday. Watch the films on the web at http://www.vanland.org">www.vanland.org. The films are available for screening at community events on dvd. For more information visit the website.
