R Harding, of Southey Lane, Kingskerswell, writes:
I read in last week's MDA that our elected district councillors are proposing to sell off our village car park.
Have they lost their minds? this parking area is an essential amenity for the village of Kingskerswell. without it, the retail outlets that remain in Fore Street – the post office, Co-operative Store and the hairdressers – will be forced to stop trading.
these facilities must remain for a village like Kingskerswell to function and remain a community.
Some months ago there was an exhibition held in the old village school asking what the residents of the village wanted to do with the Section 106 money that the bypass provided. well, the answer is quite simple – use it to keep the village amenities which our district councillors are thinking of selling off.
I would respectfully remind our county, district and parish councillors that elections are just around the corner.
They sold their souls when they agreed to take the money for the bypass and pass the building scheme at the top of Charles Road which was voted in by councillors living in other villages in the district.
but when it came to developments in their own villages they voted against them.
Our village has suffered enough over the past few years, so please councillors stop and think before you ruin a community.
it takes a long time to build a community such as ours but remove one part of it and it is lost forever.MORE LETTERS IN OUR DIGITAL EDITION
