KNICKERGATE has rocked Stokeinteignhead after an anonymous villager resident swiped a pair of knickers off a washing line and posted them back through the letterbox.
The unnamed individual accompanied the offending underwear with a note complaining that ‘this type of garment’ had been left on display opposite the village primary school.
The black pants belonged to villager Rozamund Perrin whose daughter Charlotte Wilkinson took to social media to blast the actions of the outraged neighbour, including a photo of the knickers involved and the note left with them.
In the incident, which has become labelled ‘knickergate’, Rozamund discovered the underwear had been put through her letterbox along with a note complaining that they were unsuitable to be on show near the school.
The anonymous note read: ‘It is totally inapropiate (sic) for this type of garment to be displayed opposite the village primary school.
‘There are member of this community that would welcome a halting of this.’
Charlotte was shocked at what she described as the prudish behaviour – as well as the dubious spelling and grammar.
She said: ‘Seriously, the small-minded prudishness of this village is unbelievable.
‘My mum found this note and her knickers posted through the door, didn’t know there was a law against hanging your knickers on the line.’
Her post sparked a raft of comments and shock.
One commented: ‘How spineless and menacing to do that anonymously. Temptation to go all out for serious offensiveness.
‘Maybe we could all donate our sauciest undies to add to the display.’
Another said: ‘Who on earth would take the time to write such a ridiculous, petty letter?’
Further comments included: ‘This is ridiculous. Some jealous, sad old bat with nothing better to do than complain about a pair of knickers.’
And: ‘What sad idiots, they should be arrested for touching other people’s underwear and only sick people would even notice what’s on someone’s washing line.’
Another post read: ‘It would be funny if it had been an outrageous pair, but those are most respectable pants.’
