A new commemorative bench and granite plaque will be unveiled in a Dartmoor town on Friday (August 15) to honour those who served in the Second World War.

Moretonhampstead Parish Council and Moretonhampstead History Society will hold a service of dedication at the town’s war memorial at 11am on VJ Day.

The new additions to the Moretonhampstead War Memorial ‘serve as a lasting tribute to all those from our parish and beyond who served during World War II, particularly during the European and Pacific campaigns’, a Parish Council spokesperson said.

The event celebrates the completion of the commemorative project, which was supported by the National Lottery Community Fund, the Union Inn Quiz night and Moretonhampstead Parish Council.
