THESE four people are all standing in the Devon County Council elections for Newton Abbot South.

JACKIE JACKSON (LAB)

I want to create change and improve life for the people of ­Newton Abbot South. An ex-headteacher, I have a heartfelt concern about fair funding for our children’s education and the impact of deprivation and poverty on family life. I am committed to seeking solutions and lobbying for change.

DENNIS SMITH (CON)

I believe we should embrace growth and rejoice in the strength Newton Abbot can give to Devon as one of the most ­important towns in the county and use that strength to build a stronger community that benefits all and if elected that is what I will strive to achieve.

MIKE RICKARD (GREEN)

I’m standing for the Green Party because I believe local changes can make a positive ­difference to our lives and the lives of future generations. Housing and employment, waste management, transport, education; there is no area of county responsibility that will be immune to the changes in our environment.

GORDON HOOK (LIB DEM)

I am the current councillor seeking re-election. I am passionate about serving local residents; protecting our environment, upholding the law by investing in the police and protecting school budgets and care for the elderly. Let’s get back to basics… clean the streets, empty the drains and remove the graffiti.
