Spirits, tensions, and pride were high in Newton Abbot for the women’s World Cup Final. The crowd at Sharpy’s bar celebrated the many brilliant saves from Mary Earps and commiserated with each other over our near misses.

The crowd commented together on the game and chatted about referee decisions, team performance, and the brilliance of the Lionesses.

A mixture of local families, couples, friends and relatives gathered to eat and drink whilst watching the action unfold.

Despite losing the match, 1-0 to Spain, the Lionesses were winners before they even stepped on the pitch. They have inspired a national pride, ignited a love for the women’s game, and have become a symbol of the positives of football.
