Suzanna Ray, postmistress, Buckland Post Office, Newton Abbot, writes:
Last week Nick Ray, the postmaster at Buckland Post office, featured in the Mid-Devon Advertiser with his concerns about the post office, having discovered the supermarket next door was to open a Camelot lottery terminal.
we had been successfully selling the national lottery for the last ten years.
In response to Camelot – I might add, they have still not responded to us directly as yet but only when the MDA contacted them – they mentioned that the selection process included population, projected sales, and the attitude and enthusiasm of staff.
Buckland is a community with very little passing trade. we have increased our sales and worked hard to promote the lottery – so much so, that in the last six months we achieved 10/10 on performance and our total sales were up 11 per cent on last year.
We understand that Camelot can place a terminal wherever they wish, but in this particular case, we feel this decision was morally wrong.
A special mention to Wrights Stationers, of Newton Abbot, for organising signs for helping our cause, also to the MDA for highlighting our concerns.
and a really big thank you to all our loyal customers of Buckland post office for their reassuring and on-going support and their pledge to remain a loyal lottery customer.MORE LETTERS IN OUR DIGITAL EDITION
