THE expected triumphant arrival of a blazing Olympic torch at Teignmouth could turn out to be a mere flicker.

The flame is scheduled to come to the town on Sunday, May 20, during the second stage of the 70-day relay across the country by 8,000 torchbearers, to the London stadium.

Everybody was expecting it to be paraded along the seafront in front of thousands of cheering, flag waving onlookers, with a big boost for businesses.

But the reality could be much different. There are strong indications it will only travel across the Teignmouth boundary for a few yards, and stay just a matter of minutes.

There is great secrecy surrounding the exact schedule of the torch, but rumours which have not been denied claim it will merely be run across Shaldon Bridge – which is mainly in Shaldon parish – before being driven off to Exeter for the big evening celebrations.
