PUPILS from Kenton, Starcross and Gatehouse, Dawlish, primary schools joined 200 children from across the area at the Powderham Estate to learn about countryside issues. The day, organised by the Countryside Foundation for Education (CFE), was aimed at children aged between seven to 11, and taught them how the estate runs from day to day. This included hands-on learning with a wide range of experts including falconers, gamekeepers, bat wardens, farmers, wheelwrights, foresters and Powderham estate's manager. Key themes for the day were human influence on the environment and the changing face of farming and conservation. Lord Devon said: 'Powderham has been my family home for over 600 years. During that time the world has changed a great deal and so have farming practices. 'The rural landscape has changed also and we are delighted to have the opportunity to show how young people how a rural estate both embraces new technology and opportunities while maintaining and enhancing the landscape.'
