A CARE home resident died as she ate her lunch in Newton Abbot, an opening inquest heard.
Retired secretary Nora Brown, 79, had been eating her lunch when she was found slumped over at the Dunmore Residential Home in Courtenay Road.
She was breathing but unresponsive, the hearing in Torquay was told on Wednesday.
Coroner’s officer Ric Parsons said resuscitation was started on Miss Brown.
Paramedics attended to continue the treatment but she was confirmed dead at the scene.
The cause of her death was given as aspiration of food and type two diabetes.
Formal identity was carried out by her niece, Joanne Crocker, a science technician from Newton Abbot.
There were no suspicious circumstances.
A full inquest will be heard at a later date.
