A woman has died after being struck by a train at Newton Abbot. The incident occurred at approximately 10.15pm on Thursday, January 26.

Although details have yet to be released, British Transport Police confirmed that ambulance staff took an injured woman to hospital where she later died.

Nothing about the deceased has been made public and a full statement is set to follow.

Network Rail said 'minor' disruptions to rail services had been brought about by the tragedy but that normal service had been resumed by the morning.
