WORK at the site of the proposed NA3 development at Wolborough Barton has stopped, it can be confirmed.

The developer, Vistry Devon South West, has told Teignbridge District Council (TDC) that it will cease further works on the whole site, barring any mitigation or remediation works, which are subject to agreement with the council.

The authority has stressed that any continuation of works on the site, other than agreed upon mitigation work, would likely see the council formally serve a Stop Notice.

In an email sent to councillors by officers , Vistry ‘has confirmed in writing to the District Council that it will cease further works on the whole of the site itself’.

The proposed development incudes 1,200 new properties, along with roads, open spaces and community facilities.

In April, protesters gathered at the site to prevent contractors damaging fields.

Contractors had been excavating the Coach Road road despite Teignbridge District Council rejecting plans for homes on the site in December.

The protesters were concerned that work on the site is damaging environmentally sensitive conservation areas including the Wolborough Fen site of special scientific interest (SSSI) and a County Wildlife Site (CWS) at Stray Park Meadow.

As a result, TDC served a temporary stop notice on Vistry Group on April 29.

And the latest development has seen work stop yet again.
