A SUSPECTED unexploded bomb has been discovered on Teignmouth seafront just a few hundred yards from the grand pier.

Emergency services were called to the seafront at 11.15am this morning after Karl Monk and Robert Sercombe, both keen metal detectorists from Teignmouth, discovered what is believed to be a World War II unexploded bomb on the main beach at Teignmouth close to Saint Michael’s Church.

Police have sealed off the area and the road was closed as police and coastguards, imposed an exclusion zone near St Michael’s Church, while they waited for a bomb disposal team to arrive from Plymouth.

A spokesman for the force said the suspected unexploded shell was 18 inches long.
