A SCHEME by Bovis Homes to build 41 houses on the former Exminster Hospital site has been given the go-ahead despite Cllr Brian Berman's concern about changes to the handover of affordable housing.
He found himself a lone voice on Teignbridge Council's development control committee on Monday when he said he wasn't happy with the scheme.
He stood up in an effort to gain support for a move to refer it to full council – but nobody joined him. The insistence on completing and handing over 12 affordable homes by the time no more than 90 per cent reached the open market had been watered down, he said in a statement after the debate. Now only 30 per cent of the affordable houses – four of them – had to be handed over by the time 70 per cent of the private sector homes were occupied. 'There seems to be no time condition on completing and handing over the remaining eight affordable houses,' he said.
'the developers cold avhieve handing over the 12 afforedable houses if they reduced the fprice to the housing association.'
Cllr Ann Rowland said members should vote against.
