YOUNG and old are sharing activities at Teignmouth's Alice Cross Centre.

It is mainly a facility for the over-50s, but students from Teignmouth Community College are now going in on a regular basis.

Sixth formers are using the kitchen to learn basic cookery skills, and the older folk get to taste the results.

Lorraine Lizius has taken over the coordination of the the sixth form 'enrichment programme', and the youngsters are also assisting in the table tennis and computer activities on Wednesdays, in conjunction with Wendy Smart from Inverteign Learning Centre.

'There is a real buzz at the Alice, with so many people working and learning together, and having fun.

'We are hoping to expand this new partnership with the college, with lots of new ideas that Lorraine and I have, including drama students performing plays for our users, and digital photography work,' said centre manager Julia Street.

Glen Cosby, director of the college sixth form, added: 'We are proud and delighted to work with the centre. We are always looking for ways to broaden our students' horizons, and strengthen links with the community.

'Since September, our students have engaged with members of a completely different generation, and the link between the centre and the college has proved enriching and rewarding for everybody concerned.'

The initiative was started by the Teignmouth Senior Council.
