DARTMOUTH Youth Club is hosting a launch party to show off its smart new decor tonight.
In their half-term holiday from school, club members carried out a complete refurbishment of the Ivy Lane premises, and they will be unveiling the 'new look' with a sausage and chip supper, kindly donated by Lorraine Wallis, at 6.30pm.
All ages are invited along to help celebrate the new changes.
Members not only re-decorated the building. They also brought a flavour of the 21st century and the new millennium into the design theme.
All the materials used were re-cycled, with objects and factory warehouse rejects rescued from skips and the 'Sparc' scrap store at Dartington, while old seating was replaced with soft furniture.
Youth worker Cherry Harris said: 'All the members worked so hard and everything was painted. Our thanks also go to Chris Pillar and James Calderwood for supplying the paints; to local designer and artist Tom Patterson for his patience and input and to craftsman Dave Day.
'The youth leaders worked day and night to keep the club open, and we are very grateful to them for keeping up the enthusiasm.
'We didn't pay for anything. Everything was provided, and we had several donations.'
She added: "I wanted to get the members together to work as a team. It was their idea to refurbish the club and they decided what they wanted to do.
'In any case, we let them run the club, not the youth workers – It gives them more responsibility.'
