SEVERAL business bosses claim that a scheme to build a youth skills facility on a Teignmouth trading estate will mean the loss of a 'prime industrial' site.
Teignmouth Community School and Teignmouth First – the present community college set-up – have been given a three-year option by Teignbridge Council on land at Broadmeadow for the project. If funding is found, they will be offered a 25-year lease.
But now some business people are objecting to the project, which is earmarked for the old Hannon Young compound.
Builder Steve Dale, who is based at Broadmeadow, complained: 'This is completely unacceptable. We are desperately short of land for industrial use in Teignmouth.'
Martin Davies, from Travis Perkins, which has a depot at Broadmeadow, added: 'Quite apart from the loss of prime space, it is the wholly inappropriate choice for the positioning of the youth facility.
