Ipplepen Bowling Club hold their annual Ken Day Memorial Trophy competition.

FOLLOWING the death of Ken Day back in February 2020, the Gents Captain at Ipplepen Bowling Club at the time, it was decided that they would hold an annual internal competition in his memory.

It was arranged that this competition would take place in May each year (being Ken’s birth month) and so this time around, the match was played on Saturday, May 17, seeing 24 members playing four rinks of triples games. It was lovely that some of the newest members, who joined the club last month following the recruitment promotion, were able to be part of the teams.

At the end of the afternoon, club captain Shirley Northwood was able to announce that the winning team consisted of Mary Oliphant, Mo Stevens and David Northwood (as seen in the photo pictured left to right with the trophy).

The afternoon concluded with tea and coffee, and it was essential that chocolate cake was served – the absolute favourite of Ken and certainly enjoyed by all.

It was a great afternoon in honour of such a great friend and club member, and an event which will continue to feature in Ipplepen Bowling Club’s calendar every year, so that Ken is never forgotten.

Meanwhile, the South Devon Over 55s league started at the beginning of May, and now two weeks in and Ipplepen hold second position in the “Y division”. A great start for their gents and the club wishes them continued success as the season progresses.

As previously mentioned, Mary, Mo and David are pictured from left to right with Ken Day himself in the top right corner.
